Thank you for writing this Lewis! My dad fought in Vietnam, he did two tours. He's a fine man who, yes, changed, but was still the same person after coming back- is what I'm told (I obviously wasn't around yet). He's a wonderful husband, father, and Christian. I had a conversation with my brother in law a few years ago about how not every person who was deployed suffers PTSD- he honestly thought each person did. Great to hear your words! Thanks!

[...] Today Gwen hit a traditional Korean milestone, she turned 100 days old. In Korean custom, when a baby reaches 100 days old, a party is thrown to celebrate the baby’s survival and to congratulate the parents. We’ve were fortunate with Ben and Anna that my mom planned the parties and took care of the food. Living in Texas, that was not going to happen. However, our friends really came through. I requested that there be no gifts, but if able, please bring a Korean food dish. The table was packed with all of our favorite Korean dishes and I do not think anybody left hungry. Another part of the 100 day party is to have rice cake; although we did not have a large rice cake like usual (resembling a birthday cake to visual this), I was able to buy some smaller, bite size rice cakes for everybody. I think all but three of the Army Korean instructors came, as well as a few other good friends at the unit. I also had to Air Force Korean instructors that I have gotten to know (Brent and Chuck) that happened to have babies about the same time. Brent’s baby was born on March 31st, Gwen on April 6th, and Chuck’s baby on the 7th. We kind of made it a celebration of all three babies. Please check out the pictures by following the link below or just watching the slideshow! http://www.nelsondowns.com/pictures/july-2008-gwens-100-day-party [...]

[...] Holly and I are thinking of taking a trip to San Antonio this month. We’re actually thinking about visiting a friend in the Ft. Hood area first and then making our way down to Sea World again. That got me thinking to our last trip to San Antonio last fall. When I first joined the military, I was excited to join with a great friend from college named Jody. Jody and I went through language training at the same time and traveled across a lot of California together. After I met Holly, the two of them became friends and we’ve tried to keep in touch over the years. Jody got out of the Air Force last summer and moved to San Antonio to be with her husband Jake. It was great to have her close again so we packed up the kids and made an excuse to see her (go to Sea World!). It was a fun trip and we all spent Saturday at Sea World. On Sunday, we checked out the Alamo and the San Antonio Riverwalk (which ironically I saw for the first time with Jody while we were in college). I’ve added the pictures! see the album here [...]
