Holly has never waited to term to give birth. She was determined to have the baby on April 3rd, her grandmother’s birthday, but she missed it by 3 days. At about 9pm as we were getting ready to settle in after an average Saturday, I noticed Holly making a weird, confused face. Laughing, I said, “What’s wrong?” She thought her water had broke but wasn’t sure. I convinced that she was right and we headed to the hospital.

Her water had in fact broke, but it took most of the night for her contractions to grow. She received the epidural for pain relief at about 8am. Around 9:25am, she was telling me that she was starting to feel the contractions again. I looked on her monitor and noticed that the intensity had doubled from one contraction to the next. I notified the nurse. She decided to check her out and sure enough, the head was already showing. Within 5 minutes, we were holding our little girl.

Gwendolyn was born at 10:37am weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces. She was 18 inches tall, had a full head of dark hair, and dark eyes with a blue rim around the retina. Although we’ve already witnessed the miracle of birth 2 times, it was still a magnificent site and as joyful as the others!View the complete album: http://picasaweb.google.com/lewisnelson/April62008GwendolynRoseArrives
